A few folks here in Indianapolis have joined together to start thinking about efforts to make schools more democratic. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have dropped some money on our school district to reorganize into "small schools" and there is some provision about shared goverenance for teachers and students. An editorial was submitted by John explaining why now might be a good time.....Article on Democratic Schools. The basic idea is that public schools ought to at least in part have democratic practices and should eplicitly be concerned with creating engaged citizens. Any thoughts?
