Susan Adams

A great essay in which Giroux says what I wish I had said. Quoting Bonhoefer is pure genious since his writings and life are revered in fundamentalist circles.
I have sadly concluded that most states are actively discouraging teachers from practicing more than a few years before they quit in frustration. This creates schools of young, cheap, and more easily controlled teachers who do not benefit from knowing a school and community deeply, who do not spend years thoughtfully honing their practice, and creates schools where culture and tradition are thrown out the window.

The 2nd paragraph quote says it all. For all the sacrifices teachers do to help bring up the nation's next generation, they really deserve much better treatment.
