Steady Work: How Finland Is Building a Strong Teaching and Learning System

An interesting article by Linda Darling-Hammond on education reform in Finland, notably the opposite of current efforts proposed by Indiana Superintendent Bennett and Governor Daniels.  The secret?  Focus on teaching and learning and support teachers as professionals.  In fact, its more time with Schools of Education, not less. You may remember that Darling-Hammond was an Obama advisor during the campaign and I can't help but wonder her thoughts on current federal policy.

"Teacher training emphasizes learning how to teach students who learn in different ways, including those with special needs. The egalitarian Finns reasoned that if teachers learn to help students who struggle, they will be able to teach all students more effectively and, indeed, leave no child behind.
